Messi and Ronaldo praise each other like never before

The rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may never have been as fiery as some have assumed, but never has it been as friendly as in the past week, when both players heaped praise on the other.

First, the Real Madrid forward explained in the build-up to the Champions League final just how much he enjoys watching the Barcelona No.10, before the Argentine responded with comments of his own.

"Of course I like him, as I like to watch all of the good players and he is one of those," Ronaldo told

FOX Sports Argentina when asked about Messi.

"[Messi] is a 'crack', a star.
"I really enjoy watching him play."

In an interview with ESPN, Messi had some similarly high praise for the man he has shared the Ballon d'Or with over the past nine years.

"He is a phenomenal player with a lot of quality, who outdoes himself each year," Messi said of Ronaldo.

"The entire world knows, and that is why he is one of the best of the world."
The ultimate test, however, will come at the next round of Ballon d'Or voting, as the players have previously refrained from voting the other as one of their top three.
It will be fascinating to see if their voting actions reflect this week's kind words.
