Tom Selleck Talks About How He And His Wife Has Made Their Marriage Last So Long

There are always anomalies in every trend. This is one.

Anyone who has told you that all Hollywood marriages are doomed has obviously lied to you, because these two have had an enduring love story that is still going strong till this day.

Whenever you think of marriages between celebrities, you will most likely not think that any of them will be capable of lasting too long. However, there is one Hollywood couple that is currently breaking the trend of relationships that seem to come and go as fast as the celebrities themselves land roles in movies.

Dancer Jillie Mack and actor Tom Selleck recently marked the 30th anniversary of their wedding.

So what is the secret to the success of their marriage?

Well, for one thing, the both of them have learned to always put their family first.

“I actually left ‘Magnum’ because I wanted to start a family,” Said Selleck to People back in 2012 when he made the decision to quit the sensational show ‘Magnum P. I. ’ after his wife gave birth to Hannah, his daughter, in 1998.

“It has taken a long time for me to get off that train, but I do my best to kind of get a balance, and I’ve been able to do that thanks to this ranch,” he explained, making a reference to his home- which sits pretty on 65 acres of land in Ventura County, California.

Selleck has also acknowledged the parenting style of the couple as one of the factors contributing to the strength of their relationship all through these years.

In 1999, Selleck said to New York Daily News, “Jillie and I actually have a strong relationship. We hardly make any decisions or do anything without speaking to each other first. Also, if one of us makes a decision without considering Hannah, the other parent will completely be behind that decision, regardless of whether you agree with it or not”

Selleck first met Mack in London when he became a regular attendee of the production of ‘Cats’ by West End; a production in which she starred in.

Although the two of them have made their living as entertainers, they have tried their possible best to keep their privacy throughout their relationship. This started with their secret wedding back in 1987. In a surprise ceremony, both Selleck and Mack said “I do” under aliases at a 24-hour wedding chapel in Nevada.

Selleck said that only Polaroid photos were allowed at the wedding so that the press won’t be able to get any negatives.

As for their daughter, Hannah (who is now 28 years old), she is passionate horse rider and from what we can gather from her account on Instagram, she shares a striking aesthetic and physical similarity to her mother Jillie.

Even though Tinsel Town has had a bad reputation over the decades for producing some bad and short-lived relationships, Selleck and Mack are not the only star-studded couple who have been able to make it work for so long. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have also had a pretty long marriage (which has lasted up to 28 years now), then there’s Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, who have been together for 33 years. The latter have credited the strength of their love to avoiding marriage.

It might seem weird, but at least we know they’re together and there doesn’t seem to be any issue.
