Right in the feelings: the emotional moment Maria Bello and Mark Harmon shared on Instagram before her departure
Maria Bello – The actress who quickly won our hearts with her
character Jack Sloane, is saying goodbye from the show after 3 years
being part of the NCIS family. She joined the NCIS crew back in 2017,
and her character Jack, really quickly won the hearts of thousands of
fans.
Her relationship with Gibbs was one that fans were eager to see in which
direction it will go; it was one of those “will they, won’t they”
types, and fans felt happy because it seemed, Gibbs finally found his
match. Her charms as a therapist and made her character even more
lovable. However, last year, around July, reports surfaced that was
announcing her departure from the show; and of course, the
tortured-souls that NCIS fans are, constantly being exposed to departure
with favorite characters, they instantly started their own
investigations.
Then it was revealed that Maria Bello will be leaving the show and
walk away from her character after her contract with the CBS crime drama
will end, which was for 3 years. Of course, this made fans anxious to
see how her story will end. With many speculations about Mark Harmon
leaving as well, fans wondered will it end with both of their characters
leaving together, or if that is not the case, will she be another
victim, or get to have a somewhat happy departure like DiNozzo?
Well, season 18, finally gave some clues: the “The First Day” episode
applauded on Sloane’s departure in a scene where the forensic
psychologist told Gibbs that she is planning on moving to Costa Rica;
this was an emotional moment for the main character, who seemed really
hurt and taken by the news, and this made fans wonder how this will
affect him, and the future of the series and its plot.
But fans, actually got to suffer twice from this departure; the first
emotional rollercoaster was when they figured that she is leaving, but
real tears started falling when Maria Bello posted this image of her
saying goodbye to Mark Harmon, on her Instagram profile:

In the capture of her post, she wrote her gratitude for the show,
saying: “And that’s a wrap for Jack Sloane Sloane @ncis_cbs !!! I’ve
learned many things on this journey for the last three and a half years.
I learned about commitment and community. I’ve learned that the woman I
am enjoys process over product. I’ve never worked with a kinder, more
generous group of people. I only had the privilege of standing by Dom’s
side during cancer because my producers worked so hard to make sure I
was there for every treatment. I made a speech today for our crew.
Though in our business, like many, there are quite a few assholes –
there is not one on the set of NCIS – in front of or behind the camera.
Only a profoundly decent group of people who care more about each other
and the world in general than what is in it for them. I understand why
this show after 18 years is the most watched in the world – you must all
feel our love. Keep watching. I have a feeling there will be many more
years to come. Thank you to all of my pals at NCIS and to all of our
fans. I am truly grateful.” Which was followed by the image above
alongside 3 others from her time on NCIS.
She returned later to add that she understands why fans are so
obsessed with NCIS, saying: “I understand why this show after 18 years
is the most watched in the world – you must all feel our love. Keep
watching. I have a feeling there will be many more years to come. Thank
you to all of my pals at NCIS and to all of our fans. I am truly
grateful.”
